Chapter 3

The next wave of the textbook talks about the rise, expansion and collapse of different empires. Some of these different civilizations were Chinese, India, Persian, Eurasia and the Mediterranean. In Chapter 3 it talks about the second wave of empires: Persia, Greece, Rome, China and the Han dynasties. An empire consists of a political system that exercise coercive power. The above civilizations were some of the most powerful in their time. They all were wanting to be the most powerful and a lot of human life was shed to protect these civilizations. The one empire I learned the most about was the Persian Empire. The Persian empire had a large body mass. It had a imperial system based on Monarchs. They tried to enhance their economy by building a Royal Road, canals, an irrigation system and had a variety of different religions. They would build armies and fight to try and expand their empire. Persia's most famous monarchs were Darius and Cyprus. They helped the empire expand all the way into India. The allowed diversity between which helped them be able to control the people for a long period of time.
